Liberation Learning is a documentary series documenting the lived realities of intentional communities around the world.
Through immersive storytelling, community interviews, and on-the-ground experiences, the project explores the challenges, contradictions, and lessons that emerge when people attempt to build more cooperative ways of living.
Rather than offering simple answers, Liberation Learning seeks to preserve and share the learning that is already happening within communities today.
Why This Matters
More people than ever are looking toward intentional communities, ecovillages, and cooperative living as alternatives to isolation, extraction, and disconnection.
Yet many of the most important lessons remain difficult to access
Liberation Learning exists to help document and share those lessons—not as formulas to follow, but as stories that can help us learn together.
Because the future of cooperation depends not only on building communities, but on learning from them together.
Meet the Filmmaker
Sabrina Simon is a filmmaker, educator, and community organizer whose work explores how people learn to live cooperatively.
Through her work with the Foundation for Intentional Community (FIC), Sabrina supports community leaders, curating educational programs, and helping people navigate the realities of collective living.
But much of her learning has happened outside of formal roles—through years of living in, visiting, organizing with, and building relationships across intentional communities.
Again and again, she found herself drawn to the same questions:
How do we share power?
How do we stay connected through conflict?
How do we build trust?
How do we create communities that can endure?
Rather than approaching these questions as an expert searching for answers, Sabrina approaches them as a participant, learner, and reflective guide. Her work is rooted in the belief that some of the most important knowledge about cooperation lives not in theories or frameworks, but in lived experience.
Through trusted relationships and deep immersion in community life, Sabrina's storytelling invites audiences into the challenges, contradictions, and possibilities that emerge when people genuinely attempt to live differently.
When she's not behind the camera, you'll find her facilitating gatherings, participating in grief rituals and song circles, organizing for regional networks, and chasing questions that are probably too big to answer in a single lifetime.
